FAQs

.

Q: Does it matter if I don't have a south-facing roof?
A:

No. Any home facing from east south east to west south west is able to have solar panels fitted.

Q: What happens if my heating system breaks down?
A:

Don’t worry. A full service contract is available from REM.

Q: Are refrigerants harmful to the environment?
A:

The refrigerants found in our heating systems are HCFC free.

Q: What is legionella bacteria?
A:

This is a harmful bacteria that can be found in water. There are approximately 35 different types but perhaps the most common cause is Legionnaire’s disease. This is a severe bacterial lung infection which can be fatal in 15 to 20 per cent of cases.

Q: How much space will my new heating system take up?
A:

This obviously depends on what exactly you have installed but all of our systems are fully flexible and make optimum use of space.

Q: How does a condensing boiler work?
A:

To find out how, please download our fact sheet for more information

Q: Can solar panels be used in the winter?
A:

Yes. A solar panel can get to 40°C in the middle of winter. This temperature, in the correct system, can be easily utilised.

Q: Does solar power work in the British climate?
A:

The simple answer is yes. More than 1,000kwh per sqm is able to be collected in this way.

Q: How exactly does solar power work?
A:

Air temperature has very little to do with panel temperature. Panel temperature is to do with irradiation. Summer months can produce approx 5 times more energy than winter months. But Spring and Autumn produce significant amounts of solar energy. Only if this energy can be put into the heating system as well as the hot water can you utilise the available energy to its maximum.

Q: How much and how long will the payback be?
A:

The larger the property, the bigger the payback. Depending on the size of your property, the period can be between 3 – 10 years, 3 years with the Renewable Heating Incentive.   The savings can be as much as £3000/annum in running costs with up to £1200/annum for 20 years in government grant dependent on solar array size and thermal store capacity.

Q: How much will this technology cost?
A:

Depending on the size of your property, between £3,000 and £12,000.
